Our flight itinerary had us flying from Montreal to Rome and so we booked a stopover and took a side trip to Lennoxville to visit Jim’s sister, Betty. Betty had walked the Camino de Santiago with us in 2016, setting the pace the entire way. A visit here was not for R ‘n’ R, but a final test: if we can keep up with Betty, then we feel we can at least attempt the Via Francigena.
Lennoxville is a community within Sherbrooke, Quebec with access to a multitude of high quality walking trails, including a segment of the Trans-Canada Trail.
Betty rallied us each morning at the crack of dawn, then after a breakfast of strong coffee (the best) and point (whatever else you can point at in her kitchen) we headed out for a 2-3 hour morning walk. The weather was HOT and HUMID and so we hid during the afternoons.
After lunch, cribbage, and a long siesta (which I think might be Spanish for Netflix) we took a shorter evening walk.
It was forecast to rain-out our entire last day so our friend Sheila chauffeured us on a road trip through Louise Penny country: Knowlton, Austin, St. Benoit du Lac Abbey, Manoire Hovey and Lac Brome. We witnessed no murders, but it was a scenic trip, nonetheless.
It was sad to say goodbye. We wished Betty would be walking through Italy with us, but she agreed to coach and cheer us on from her beautiful garden in Lennoxville.

You left JUST in time for the 38 degree weather and tornado watches! Can't wait to read about your Rome adventure.
