17 km — 33oC and sunny — We met 13 more pilgrims on their way to Rome.

Today’s theme: Under the Tuscan Sun!
Clear blue sky, full sun, hot — these were our weather conditions. Once or twice, a cloud appeared on the horizon, but never did us the favour of moving above us.
Luckily, we beat most of the heat by starting to walk at 6:00 a.m. and it was much easier and faster going down the trail from Radicofani than it had been going up. The scenery was beautiful all the way to the final turn-off to our destination, the hamlet of Gallina. The last 1.3 kms, then, were along the shoulder of a highway and the sun bouncing off the pavement made us melt.
The guidebook’s stage for today would have taken us another 18 kms all the way to San Quirico d’Orcia — a total of 33 kms — we were glad that we had decided to break it into two stages instead. In Gallina, we stayed comfortably at “Ostello La Vecchia Posta,” operated by a dedicated couple. The hostel was full, with 8 pilgrims staying, and we were grateful to get the last two beds!
Maybe the prettiest piazzetta in Italy? (In Radicofani, last evening)
